We Do, 25 years later

While trying to play blog catch up, I somehow missed posting about our 25th Wedding Anniversary. 9~15~1990. We did not get to celebrate properly as I was still recovering from major surgery. Now, six months later we are trying to plan a weekend getaway! 25 years, kudos to us! In a time where divorce is the easy way out, we always took the road less traveled. But, although we have had struggles, because what marriage doesn't, divorce has never been even a thought. Our marriage started on a strong foundation. After three years of dating, we knew we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. Today, we can honestly say that we are best friends, partners for life.

Here's a few pictures of us throughout the years!

50 is Fabulous!

50 is fabulous, I keep telling myself that. It doesn't feel fabulous. In fact, it doesn't feel any different than 49. It's just a number! It just happens to come after 49!  December 20, 2015 was the day I hit the half century mark.

I just don't know how 50 came so quickly! I don't understand where the time went or who nudged that clock too much! Sometimes, mentally, I feel 30, but physically I sometimes feel older than 50. It's a surprise everyday!

We had a big party in July for Brian's 50th. I just wanted a small family lunch with no hoo-rah. I was still recovering from my back and tooth surgery and "quite" sounded like a good way to commemorate this occasion.

We had lunch at Floyd's Seafood, waited on by my son, with family and great friends!

(Pictured going around table to left) Me, Monte, Kim, Rayna, Ross, Jake, Brian, Hailey, Donna and Brian. Tyler was taking the pic!

Kim and I before lunch. I asked for a diamond tennis bracelet, which my sweet husband happily obliged! I received other thoughtful gifts too! And beautiful flowers from my Tarlov Cyst Cyster, Wendy, in Tennessee.

It was a great day to be 50!
51, just don't get here too quick!

Wes Walker Family Reunion 2015

Upon Tyler's request, his Aunt Kim planned a long over due family reunion. We use to have them every year, but after my grandparents passed away everyone started doing their own thing at Thanksgiving. It was awesome having so many of us together again! I'm so thankful Kim planned and hosted and we are looking forward to the next one!

That's a big group! I know those who have passed on were there with us! I even witnessed a few cardinals! There's an old saying that when a cardinal visits, it's your loved ones letting you know they are there! Grandma and Grandaddy, Mom and Uncle Carl would be so proud!

My baby brother, Welby and I. Our other two brothers were unable to attend.

My first cousin, Marcie McKay and I. (Yes, I'm 10 years older!)

Tyler and Shelby.

Our Family. I loved hanging out and visiting! And, as always, the food was delicious! We have to make sure we continue the tradition!  Can't wait til the next one!

Lovebirds take New Orleans!

November, 2015

(Yes, still playing catch up!)

Tyler and his precious girlfriend, Shelby, took a weekend getaway to the Big Easy. I have to admit, I was quite jealous!  They stopped in Lafayette, La for lunch at Dad's favorite college eatery, Old Time Grocery! Dad was definitely envious about that!

Then they moseyed (is that really a word!?!) on to the Crescent City. They enjoyed the hustle of world famous Bourbon Street, relaxed with a hurricane at Pat O's, walked thru Jackson Square, and of course, had breakfast at Cafe DuMonde!

Aren't they just the cutest! All I can say is they're going to give me beautiful red headed grand babies one day! I just (almost) can't wait! How does Gammy, Mama Jo, Jomama, or just maw-maw sound? Sounds good to me! 😜

I L❤️VE them!

MacBeth, Modern Day ~ Clear Springs Charger Theatre

Still playing catch up! Jake had the 2nd lead in his school's fall production of MacBeth, modern day style. He along with the whole cast, put in many hours of practice all while keeping up with his academic commitments. He's taking dual credit college classes at the College of the Mainland's satellite campus, then going to high school for his other classes. He's packing a full schedule and I'm amazed that he's able to keep all A's during these long play production practices.

Jake was cast as Banquo, MacBeth's friend and later his nemesis. He always seems to land the role of the "good guy". True to his real life character!  Here's a few pics from the production!

And my all time favorite part and picture, because it depicts the gentleness of his soul, and the fact he's a gentle giant. (This boy is only a year younger than Jake, but looks like a child next to him!).

These productions are very emotional for me on so many levels. The fact my baby is just about grown, and his scenes in this play took me back to his childhood of when he loved all things camouflage. As he was on stage during the fighting scenes, I remembered back to his younger years playing soldier and rolling in the grass! He knew all about guns, every sound each one made, and he made those sounds often! Oh, to have him little again! I can when I close my eyes and drift back into my memory to the precious times of yesteryear.

A mother's baby will always be her baby, even when he's 6 foot 3 inches tall and 240 lbs. if I could only hold him and rock him again!

Miracle on 34th Street ~ Clear Springs High School Theatre

(Still playing catch-up) ...

Jake once again was cast in his school's Christmas Theatre production.  A Miracle on 34th Street was chosen for 2015. Opening Night was 12/11/15. I love the Christmas productions! They're fun and so much more enjoyable than watching the portrayed movie on TV!

Jake was cast as the "Judge". I'm sure everyone remembers the storyline, so I'll skip that part and just post the pics of my sweet boy! He never disappoints! He was great, funny and entertaining! The whole cast was adorable and brought lots of laughs!

Can I just say how much I love this boy! Can't wait til this next Christmas, which will be his last high school Christmas play. (Tear, sniff, tear 😢)

6 months just flew by ...

The last time I blogged was 2 days before my Tarlov Cyst surgery on 8/18/15. Wow, I guess with my recovery and trying to get back to life I totally skipped updating! Sorry to those of you who don't have facebook and have been wondering about my progress!

We left for Dallas on Monday, checked in to the hotel, tried to eat a good last meal, the key word there was "tried". Nerves were starting to have a party, and no sleep was eminent. It was a toss and turn night for sure! We arrived at the hospital at 8:30 am. I was in surgery by 10:45 am. The last thing I remember was the bright lights as I was being wheeled into the OR and being asked to scoot from the stretcher to the OR table.  This was right after they gave me the "I don't care juice".

The next thing I remember is being in my room with Brian at my side holding my hand. I was told the surgery was a success and the cysts were larger than they thought. I was in pain, I'm not going to deny that, but it was manageable. I had to lie flat for the first 24 hours to minimize the risk of developing a spinal headache. My backside felt as if I had a brick strapped to it! I of course had my little friend, the morphine pump. I've always had a high tolerance to pain meds, so I expected not to be pain free. This was after I woke up in my room.

The first night was the roughest, but God sent me a heavenly nurse who took great care of me! She turned me from side to side every hour and kept an ice pack full and in place. She encouraged me to drink water. I vaguely remember grabbing her hand, with tears rolling down my face, telling her she was taking care of me just like my mom would have.

The next day it was time for business! The bed was elevated slowly and by the afternoon it was time to get up and walk! I felt weak and unsteady, but walking felt good! I still felt like I had a brick strapped to my lower back. I was so happy to have real food!

Thursday, I asked to leave the hospital and return to the hotel! A day early! Yep, that's me. So, that's what we did! It felt great to be in a regular bed without anyone bothering me all night! I slept better than I expected but was up often to use the restroom, me and my new friend, a four leg walker. We left the next morning for the 5 hour drive home. I had a "make do" bed in the back of the car as I was advised not to sit. The drive home wasn't bad as far as the surgical area hurting any more than normal, but after 2 hours I started getting nervous and we had to stop often. Climbing in and out of the car from the hatchback wasn't easy, but we thought to take a stool.

It was so great to be home! My bed, my boys, my Marlee! The boys were so sweet and caring. Marlee was so gentle with me! I slept a lot the first week. I was still in bed more than not up thru about 8 weeks post op. No bending, twisting, no pushing, no pulling. That was the rules. There wasn't much I could do without breaking them. I learned a pair of BBQ tongs were my best friend! Easy to pick things up, move things around, and I even pulled clothes out of dryer to fold with them.

These pics show my incision at 5 days, two weeks and eight weeks, respectively.

Nice 4 1/2 inch extension of my butt crack! I know, nothing sexy about this old 49 year old butt!

So that's an update thru 8 weeks recovery, a long 8 weeks! I'll continue the progress in the next post!
And, I'll try to catch up and not fall behind again! Once again, "try" is the key word!
